While it definitely hasn't been wildfire weather here in the UK so far this "Summer", it's pretty depressing watching the news and seeing climate change in action across the continent. As we write this, fires are raging in Greece, Italy, France and Spain, and we've just learned that smoke from a Scottish wildfire was visible from space. Not good.
We've been looking for a good cause to get involved with here at The Local Coffee Club and we think we've found one: treeapp. Formed in 2019, treeapp aim to fight for the planet by planting trees where they're most needed. They're a certified B Corporation (i.e. a company that meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability) and in our opinion, a worthy recipient of regular donations from us.
Now, let's get one thing straight: we're by no means saying we're fixing the climate crisis by doing this. We're not. That'd be completely foolish and untrue. It's a small gesture from a small coffee subscription business. However, it's a cause that we're keen to try to support [insert cheesy quote about small changes making a big difference here] We'll make regular contributions to treeapp and over time we hope to grow our little micro forest into something a bit bigger. We'd implore other businesses to get involved and we'd also encourage you to get the treeapp app. It allows anyone to plant a tree for free, every day, in less than a minute. All you have to do is watch an Ad.
Want another way to plant trees for free? Check out Ecosia. It's a search engine that we've been using for a while now that also plants trees (about 179 million so far). Tree this, tree that - we know, we know. Back to the coffee!
